Every year this is a titanic clash, and this year will be no different, with Alex Ferguson s United clinging on to a marginal lead in the league, and with Liverpoolo finally finding form and battling to rescue fourth spot and a place in champions league football next season.
Ferguson relishes these games which get the fans and the players pumping. A few months ago this might have been a bit of a damp squib but since Liverpool s fortunes have turned there is real spice in the fixture once more. With Ferguson being public enemy number one to Liverpool fans, league position will go out of the window for this one. Ferguson will want another victory over their arch rivals above all else. His odds look good to, with a good run of form behind them, but injuries to key defenders Brown and Evans will be a slight concern.
rafa Benitez has not had an easy ride this season but with the last two matches bringing seven goals with none conceded, along with four goals for in form again striker Fernando Torres, he will know that the timing is ripe for an upset. Liverpool have struggles this season primarily because their top two players by a country mile, Gerrard Torres, have lacked form and fitness. For the first time this season, both are fit with games under their belt and the difference is there for all to see. For me the team still lacks balance without a genuinely skillful playmaker, but they are certainly a much tougher proposition than they were two months ago.
This is a tough one to pick but with United in such a strong vein of form and so close to league success, I think Ferguson will take the plaudits for a tight home victory
Verdict: Manchester United Home Win
