Liberian Football Association president Musa Bility has appealed to the Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS) over his exclusion from the FIFA presidential election.
Bility was ruled out of the race last month after failing an integrity check a decision he described as unfortunate .
But on Wednesday, CAS announced that Bility has appealed his case, in the hope the decision will be overturned and he can run to replace the outgoing Sepp Blatter.
Musa Hassan Bility has filed an appeal at the Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS) against the FIFA Ad hoc Electoral Committee s decision of 12 November 2015 in which his candidacy for the upcoming presidential election was refused, a CAS statement read.
The FIFA Ad hoc Electoral Committee noted that Mr Bility had failed to pass the integrity checks carried out by the Investigatory Chamber of the FIFA Ethics Committee, and for this reason, could not be admitted as a candidate for the election for the office of FIFA President on 26 February 2016.
In appealing to the CAS, Mr Bility seeks a final decision declaring that his integrity is not challenged and that he can run for the FIFA presidential election in February.
He also filed a request to suspend the execution of the challenged decision to allow him to continue with his election campaign pending a final decision on the merits of the case.
Finally, Mr Bility has requested that an expedited procedure be put in place to enable the final decision on the merits to be issued before the end of the year.
FIFA has agreed to the expedited procedure and a procedural calendar has been determined in order to complete the arbitration procedure before the end of 2015. A hearing could take place before Christmas but a date has not been confirmed yet.
Bility was originally one of six men along with Prince Ali Al Hussein, Sheikh Salman Bin Ebrahim Al Khalifa, Jerome Champagne, Gianni Infantino and Tokyo Sexwale who announced their intention to replace Blatter.
Both Blatter and UEFA president Michel Platini were suspended from their positions having been accused of corruption in relation to an alleged disloyal payment made from FIFA to the Frenchman in 2011.
