Belgium’s Romelu Lukaku 6/4 to score anytime against Wales in tonight’s Euro 2016 quarter-finals clash

Competition: Euro 2016
Market: Lukaku to score anytime
Odds:

Belgium striker Romelu Lukaku is expected to lead the line for the Rode Duivels against Wales in this evening’s Euro 2016 quarter-final meeting at the Grand Stade Lille Métropole, and will be hoping he can inflict damage against a defence he’ll know all too well from his Premier League experience.

The Everton centre-forward has played against almost all of Wales’ defence in the English top-flight, enjoying goals against many of them, and as a result he’ll be looking to repeat the feat to help his side to the semi-finals of the European Championship.

While inconsistent this summer, Lukaku is just one goal from the top scorers in the charts, and they will no doubt be on his mind at t…

Bournemouth 1-2 Brentford: Wissa wins it after frantic finish

Yoane Wissa and Bryan Mbeumo starred in a frantic finish as Brentford emerged with a dramatic 2-1 away victory against Bournemouth.

Saturday’s match was goalless after 85 minutes and it looked like visitors Brentford had snatched victory when a fine pass by Wissa allowed Mbeumo to open the scoring.

But Dominic Solanke headed in an equaliser for the hosts with one minute of normal time remaining.

That was not to be the last of the drama, though, as Mbeumo turned provider and Wissa scored the winner in the fifth minute of stoppage time.

Defeat means Bournemouth are 11th in the standings, behind Brighton on goal difference, while Brentford are 16th, now just one point behind Everton.

The Cherries thought they had opened the scoring midway through t…

On this day in 2000: John Barnes sacked as Celtic manager

John Barnes was sacked as Celtic manager on this day in 2000.

The club’s decision to part company with the former Liverpool and England winger came two days after a humiliating Scottish Cup loss to second-tier Inverness.

Barnes had been in charge for just eight months and oversaw only 29 games.

Pressure had been building since a run of five defeats in eight games in the autumn, including a 4-2 reverse at Rangers in Barnes’ first Old Firm derby.

Form did not markedly improve and the cup shock – which prompted the memorable newspaper headline ‘Super Caley Go Ballistic Celtic Are Atrocious’ – proved the final straw.

Despite beginning his reign with 12 wins in his first 13 games, Barnes had struggled to win over fans and the 3-1 defeat by …

Euro 2012 Group B preview: Netherlands v Germany

The Netherlands will have to bounce back against bitter rivals Germany on Wednesday to keep their Euro 2012 hopes alive.

Grudge matches don t come much bigger than this with their Group B clash holding added significance after the Netherlands shock opening 1-0 loss to Denmark. Dutch fans will tell you they can handle a loss, just not to Germany.

That opening result was not part of coach Bert van Marwijk s plans meaning the Oranje will have to pick up the pieces and defeat either or both of Germany and Portugal, to progress to the next phase.

Both are in the world s top four and qualified for the tournament with exceptional verve and ease but it is the unwavering Germans that have the early advantage in the group after their 1-0 win over Portugal.
