Xavi expects Manchester City to make a move for Tottenham star Dele Alli during the close-season.

Alli has developed into one of Europe s most sought-after players since moving to White Hart Lane in 2015 and the England international was recently crowned PFA Young Player of the Year for the second season in succession.

The 21-year-old has been heavily linked with Real Madrid in recent months, but Xavi believes City will also be in the race for the midfielder due to Pep Guardiola s desire to bring in English talent.

I speak with Pep, and I know he thinks it is important to sign English players, Xavi told The Sun.

Chelsea 3-1 Southampton: Blues strike with two late goals to move top

Chelsea scored twice in the final 10 minutes to down 10-man Southampton 2-1 and move top of the Premier League on Saturday.

Trevoh Chalobah headed in the opening goal after just nine minutes at Stamford Bridge before Romelu Lukaku and Timo Werner both had first-half finishes disallowed.

James Ward-Prowse levelled things up from the penalty spot just after the hour-mark but his day ended abruptly as he was dismissed for a dangerous challenge on Jorginho with 13 minutes left to play.

Werner proved the late hero as he sneaked in at the back post to turn home Cesar Azpilicueta s low cross and Ben Chilwell added a late third to move the hosts two points clear at the summit.

Back to winning ways!

Tuchel relaxed over Mendy injury but data highlights massive gulf between himand Kepa

Thomas Tuchel seemed relaxed about the condition of Edouard Mendy after the goalkeeper suffered a rib injury in Sunday s 2-1 defeat to Aston Villa, less then a week before the Champions League final.

Mendy was replaced by Kepa Arrizabalaga at half-time, with the Senegal international having hurt his ribs after colliding with the goal frame.

Chelsea went on to secure qualification for the Champions League regardless of their defeat to Villa, though the fitness of their first-choice goalkeeper was undoubtedly a concern with such an important game on the horizon.

Mendy joined Chelsea last year and quickly established himself as the club s primary option between the posts under Frank Lampard, before retaining his place when Tuchel came in four months ago.

Spurs face old rivals Arsenal in League Cup

Tottenham have been drawn against bitter rivals Arsenal in a potentially explosive League Cup third round tie.

Harry Redknapp s team will host their north London enemies in a clash which gives Spurs defender William Gallas an early chance to play against his former club just weeks after his move to White Hart Lane.

The tie is also an opportunity for Spurs to underline their emergence as serious challengers to Arsenal s long-held supremacy in north London.

It is the third time in five years that these feuding neighbours have met in the League Cup, with Tottenham winning the semi-final in 2008 after Arsenal had triumphed at the same stage a year earlier.

Elsewhere in Saturday s draw, holders Manchester United, who beat Aston Villa in the final in February,…

Nani linked with Valencia exit

Valencia winger Nani could be leaving Mestalla at the end of the season, .

The 30-year-old joined los Che in an €8.5 million deal from Fenerbahce last summer and he did well to produce 4 goals and 6 assists in 22 league appearances.

However, Nani does not seem to be too happy at Mestalla and his lack of motivation has been affecting his latest performances.

The club chiefs and head coach Voro were especially disappointed with the winger’s contribution in the high-profile clash against Real Madrid, and they are seriously thinking about putting the Portugal international up for sale.

Valencia need to raise some cash in the summer transfer window and with Nani still held in high regard by top European clubs, he could be among those to leave.
